about

“Nostalgia is a vital resource for buffering existential threats.”⁣

A computer is just as much of an instrument as any other. Programming, even more so. But as with all generative content, you’d HAVE to distil the essence from it. The raw data, while a narrative of its own, is not conducive to serve another narrative. That is the case with Effigy for Memory.⁣

The MIDI data for the piano was generated using an old generative sequencer called Nova3 by Tonecarver. Simple set of rules for how it generates notes, infinitely complex results. I let it record the MIDI for about 140 bars, then took a 20-bar section and simplified and clarified it to what you hear. ⁣

Of course there was a hyper-distorted wailing lead reinforcing the theme. Of course. I fucking love reverb, I always have. It crawls in the nooks of my mind to tell me it’s okay for time to erase my memories. In a larger sense, it reminds me of the human footprint on Earth - perceptually undying from our perspective, astoundingly transient IRL.⁣

about

Niranjan Raghu Bengaluru, India

Writing through alternating episodes looped through a single reel of analog film-mind. This convolution is a reflection of the other–of transient life, opulent decay, soaring architecture. These hallways are an invitation to be resilient, an invitation to be kinder than you were yesterday, but not as kind as you will be tomorrow.

The Hexagon Sun will dawn on us.
